The July issue of Italian Vogue was completely dedicated to black models. There was concern that this issue wouldn’t sell as well because of this, however the reaction has been quite the opposite. The magazine has been talked about in the New York Times, on the “Today” show and all around the fashion buzz creating a demand for it.
This decision was influenced by a New York protest group as well as Barack Obama’s success in the U.S. presidential primaries. It was a reaction over recent anger from the reluctance of fashion magazines to feature black models on their cover because “they just do not sell.”

At Yves Saint-Laurent’s men’s collection, the house that kicked off the Paris men’s shows, feminine fashion touches were brought out the lines. Features, such as, light airy see-through linens, silks and soft feathery cottons, which are usually reserved for women, made an appearance in the men’s lines.
Another noticeable change in the new men’s lines was color. Bright colors have usually been reserved for female lines but they also made a dominant appearance, especially the use of pink through the lines.
